Hudec's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Comets To Series Win Over Belhaven

RICHARDSON, TX (02.27.16) - Comet senior Aly Hudec blasted her second home run of the weekend with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning to lift the UT Dallas softball team to a 6-5 win over Belhaven Saturday afternoon to wrap up the three-game home series with the Blazers.

The Comets (now 9-5) entered the 7th trailing Belhaven, 5-4, but got a lead-off double by Ravin Wilson off of BU ace Julienne Broussard. Two batters later, Hudec stepped to the plate and lifted an 0-1 pitch over the left-centerfield wall for her team-leading fourth long ball of the young season. UTD has now won 9-of-10 game since starting the season 0-4.

UTD took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd thanks to two hits and the first of three Blazer errors. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Comets score their first run thanks to a wild pitch from BU starter Taylor Surrento, allowing Melissa Livermore to score. Taylor later scored in the frame on a two-out dropped fly ball by the Belhaven right fielder.

Belahven (now 5-5) tallied three runs in the top of the 5th on a pair of home runs to take a 3-2 advantage, however the Comets answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on another Blazer error to retake the lead. With two outs and again runners on 2nd and 3rd, a throwing error by the BU shortstop on a two-out ground ball allowed both Kendall Moore and Livermore to score. But, Belhaven responded in the top of the 6th with a two-run home run by Dani Craft, her second of the contest, to snag a 5-4 lead.

Comet starter Lauren McLeod did not factor in the decision in Saturday's game after giving up two runs with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Freshman Allie Stephens (2-0) collected her second win of the season with a three-inning relief appearance with a strikeout. Livermore finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Stephanie Polderman was 1-for-2 and two steals, making her 13-for-13 on the season.
