SHERMAN, TX (03.01.16) - The UT Dallas baseball team took advantage of six errors as the Comets rolled to a 9-2 road win over Austin College Tuesday night in non-conference action.
The Comets (now 5-3) turned early Roo miscues into a quick 4-0 lead and never needed to worry as they earned their second second straight victory. UTD will open American Southwest Conference play this weekend with a three-game home series against Hardin-Simmons.
UTD opened the scoring in the 2nd with three runs on two hits and the first Roo error of the evening.
Josh Covey got things started with a two-out double to left, scoring
Mitch Barati and
Matthew Young. Covey later scored on an AC error on a ground ball by
Cody Duplechin. The Comets then added to their lead on the 3rd after three AC errors in the frame. UTD grabbed a 4-0 advantage after
Nick Marti reached base, and advanced to second base, on an error and then scored on a bunt single by
Tim Cole followed by a Roo throwing error.
Leading 4-1, the Comets tacked on three more runs in the 4th and two final runs in the 5th to pull away. In the 4th, UTD used a sacrifice fly by
David McKenzie and a two-run double by Young to go up 7-1. The Comets added a two-run double by Martin in the 5th to take a 9-1 advantage.
Comet starter
Garrett Uhl (1-0) picked up the midweek win after striking out five batters in his first appearance for UTD. Covey finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Young was 3-for-5 with two doubles.
