RICHARDSON,TX (03.14.16) - The UT Dallas softball team is halfway to its third American Southwest Conference series win of the young season after a home split Monday afternoon with Mary Hardin-Baylor at the UTD Softball Field.
The Comets (now 11-8, 8-3 ASC) used a late rally to earn an 8-3 win over UMHB in Monday's opener before falling to the Cru by the same score in the night cap. The series finale between the two teams will take place at 12 p.m. Tuesday.
Game 1 - UTD 8, UMHB 3UTD scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the 6th to propel the Comets to an 8-3 win over visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor to open the three-game series between the two squads.
Tied 3-3 heading to the 6th, the Comets got a leadoff single by
Aly Hudec followed by a two-run bomb by
Sarah Morales to take a 5-3 advantage. After back-to-back singles by
Sara Navarro and
Stefanie Polderman,
Brittany Perkins used a pinch-hit double to right to lift UTD to a 7-3 lead.
Melissa Livermore completed the scoring with an RBI single to left later in the frame.
The Cru opened the game with a leadoff homer by Leah Brown and added a second solo shot in the 1st inning to snag a quick 2-0 lead. UTD countered in the 2nd, however, with three runs, including a two-run single by Livermore, to take a 3-2 advantage. UMHB evened the game in the 3rd with a sacrifice fly.
Lauren McLeod (7-2) picked up her seventh straight victory, scattering seven hits in a complete-game performance. Morales finished 2-for-3 while Livermore was 2-for-4 with three RBI from the leadoff spot.
Game 2 - UMHB 8, UTD 3In Monday's late game, the Cru belted four home runs, including two by Brown, en route to an 8-3 victory to even the series one game a piece.
Brown again opened the game with a long ball, igniting a three-run 1st for the Cru. UMHB added two runs in the 2nd to secure a 5-0 lead. The Comets got on the board in the 5th with a two-run home run by
Lauryn Manning, the first of her career, but UMHB responded with a three-run 6th. The Comets plated a run in the bottom of the 6th on a Manning single, scoring Perkins, but left two runners on base in the frame and the bases loaded in the 7th.
Manning finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI in a start behind the plate for the Comets while Livermore had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
