Softball Takes Series Against UMHB, Improves To 9-3 In ASC Play

RICHARDSON, TX (03.15.16) - After splitting decisions in Monday's doubleheader, the UT Dallas softball team picked up its third American Southwest Conference series victory of the season Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in the three-game series finale.

POST-GAME INTERVIEW/HIGHLIGHTS

The Comets improved to 12-8 overall and an impressive 9-3 in ASC play after the two wins over visiting UMHB. UTD picked up an 8-3 win over the Cru in Monday's series opener before falling by the same score in the night cap.

Lauren McLeod (8-2) scattered three hits as she recorded her sixth shutout of the season and extending her winning streak to eight straight decisions. McLeod collected just one strikeout in the victory, that coming with two outs in the top of the 7th after the Cru loaded the bases.

After four scoreless frames, the Comets finally dented the scoreboard with two-run, bases-loaded single by Sara Navarro for the only runs of the game. With one out in the 5th, Melissa Livermore reach on a bunt single and moved to second base on a single up the middle by Taylor Ervin. After a walk drawn by Aly Hudec, Navarro laced a 2-2 pitch to left field, plating both Livermore and Ervin.

The Comets finished the game with nine hits, collecting at least one hit in each of the first five innings. Navarro finished 1-for-3 with two RBI while Livermore and Ervin each went 2-for-3.

Next up for the Comets is a three-game road series at No. 7-ranked East Texas Baptist. The two teams will open the three-game series in Marshall with a single game Friday at 6 p.m. before a 1 p.m. Saturday doublheader.
