RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.16) - Junior
Kendall Moore knocked in a pair of runs while freshman
Allie Stephens recorded her second shutout of the season as the UT Dallas softball team downed Howard Payne, 3-0, Saturday afternoon to wrap up a three-game American Southwest Conference home series against the Lady Jackets.
The Comets (now 15-16, 11-10 ASC) currently sit in fourth place in the ASC standings with just nine left to play and are poised for their third postseason appearance in four seasons. UTD returns to action next weekend with a three-game series at Concordia Texas. The two team open the set with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday before a 12 p.m. single game Saturday in Austin.
Moore opened the scoring for the Comets in the bottom of the 2nd as she laced a two-out double off the left field wall, bringing home
Sara Navarro from second base. The Comets add a pair of insurance runs in the 6th to complete the scoring as Navarro plated
Taylor Ervin with a single up the middle and later scored on an RBI groundout by Moore.
Stephens (4-3) earned the complete-game victory for UTD, scattering six hits and walking one the shutout. Navarro finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Moore was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
