RICHARDSON, TX (09.16.16) - The No. 11 UT Dallas volleyball team opened American Southwest Conference play with authority Friday night as the Comets overpowered LeTourneau in three sets at the UTD Activity Center.
Freshman
Dylan Brinkman used eight kills in the opening stanza to set the tone and finished with 15 kills as the Comets (now 7-1, 1-0 ASC) earned a 25-9, 25-16, 25-15, victory over the guest YellowJackets. UTD returns to action Saturday when the Comets host Belhaven at 2 p.m., honoring the three senior members of the squad before the contest.
Brinkman finished the night hitting .433 while adding seven digs, two aces and a block as the Comets extended their ASC regular-season winning streak to 19 matches, dating back to the 2014 campaign.
Holyn Handley ended the match with seven kills and
Michelle Toro finished with six kills while
Abbie Barth gathered a match-high 14 digs.

Briana Tully had 10 digs to keep the momentum in the Comets' favor. UTD cooled off in the second set, hitting .244, while Brinkman added four kills and Barth picked up a pair of aces in a 25-16 victory. Handley and
Sydney Riordan each finished with four kills as the Comets locked down the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
Freshman setter
Caroline Shecterle ended the sweep with 21 assists (7.0 per set) while
Fayna Zeng had 14 assists. Zeng and Tully had 13 digs.
