RICHARDSON, TX (09.17.16) - With the senior class being recognized prior to the match, the No. 11-ranked UT Dallas volleyball celebrated their service with a quick 3-0 home win over Belhaven Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (now 8-1) hit .250 as a team in a match which lasted just over an hour, picking up their third straight home this week. Senior
Michelle Toro finished with a match-high 13 kills along with four blocks while fellow seniors
Abbie Barth and
Holyn Handley each added six kills.
UTD kicked off the short match with a 25-16 win over the visiting Blazers as BU managed just six kills in the opening stanza. The Comets hit .261 with 18 kills, a block and an ace as they dominated the opening set. Toro had eight kills and a block while freshman
Dylan Brinkman added four kills.
The Comets followed up with a 25-17 victory in the second set to take a 2-0, led by Toro and Brinkman again. Toro had five kills while Brinkman added four more as UTD hit .257 in the win. The Comets wrapped up the match by hitting .233 in the final set with Barth collecting five kills.
Belhaven is in its second year of transitional membership into NCAA Division III and is a member of the American Southwest Conference. However, Saturday's match does not count in the league standings.
The Comets return to action, and ASC play, Tuesday night when they visit rival Texas-Tyler. Match time is 7 p.m. in Tyler.
