RICHARDSON, TX (09.18.16) - After five road games to open the season, the UT Dallas men's soccer team finally returned and earned a 3-1 non-conference win over UC Santa Cruz Sunday night at the UTD Soccer Field.
Freshman
Alfredo Kaegi tallied a pair of goals in the opening half to spark the Comets (now 3-3) to a 2-0 lead at the break and
Erik Reyes added an insurance goal early in the second period. Kaegi, now the Comets' leader with three goals on the season, finished the night with five shots, three on goal, as UTD out-shot the Banana Slugs, 20-10.
Jude Anuwe and
Andrew Jenson each came off the bench for three shots.
In the 30th minute, Kaegi collected his first goal of the night as he accepted a pass down the left line from teammate
Kevin White and drilled a shot past UCSC starting keeper Andrew Pimentel. Kaegi's second tally came in the 37th minute after a long pass up the middle from
Connor Crabtree. Just 3:35 into the second half, Reyes scored on a one-timer after a shot by Watley ricocheted off the crossbar.
The Banana Slugs (now 2-5) got a late goal from Jacob Myers Norys in the 88th minute to avoid the shutout.
The Comets are back in action Thursday as they open American Southwest Conference play at home against Concordia Texas. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
