RICHARDSON, TX (09.22.16) - Freshman forward
Alfredo Kaegi scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season just 1:18 into the first overtime period as the UT Dallas men's soccer team upended Concordia Texas, 2-1, Thursday night in the Comets' American Southwest Conference opener.
Kaegi, who scored the first goal of the night early in the first period, streaked down the field, taking a long pass from teammate
Danny Meyer, and beat the CTX keeper one-on-one to give the Comets (now 4-3, 1-0 ASC) their fourth victory in five games. Kaegi opened the scoring in the 7th minute with an unasssited goal to give UTD an early 1-0 lead.
The visiting Tornados (now 6-2, 1-1 ASC) got the equalizer in the 42nd minute when Fabian Billings scored on volley after a Isaiah Coombs free kick. CTX came in the game with a six-game winning streak and had outscored its first seven opponents, 19-4. The Comets held CTX to just 11 shots, four on goal, and only three shots in second half and overtime combined.
Kaegi led UTD with six shots, three on goal, while Meyer added three shots and
Connor Crabtree took two shots, both on goal. The Comets ended the affair with 15 shots, six on goal, while UTD keeper
Joseph Weber made three saves.
The Comets return to the pitch Saturday night when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor in another ASC game, wrapping up their three-game home stand in the process. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
