RICHARDSON, TX (09.02.16) - The No. 13-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team picked up a quick 3-0 win over Wiley College Friday night as the Comets kicked off the 2016 season in front of a rowdy opening night crowd at the Activity Center.

The Comets (now 1-0) picked up a win in a third straight season opener as they cruised past Wiley, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.

Michelle Toro picked up where she left off last season as finished with a match-high 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, along with a pair of blocks. Freshman
Dylan Brinkman added nine kills while senior
Abbie Barth had eight kills. Freshman
Caroline Shecterle had 19 assists while sophomore
Fayna Zeng had 16 assists, splitting time at setter. Comet freshman libero
Briana Tully collected a match-high 17 digs.
The Comets had their worst hitting performance of the night in the opening set (.091), but still managed a 25-20 to set the tone. Toro and Barth each had three kills in the stanza. Toro then added four kills in the second set with the Comets improving to .182 as a team and then closed the door with a six-kill third set when UTD hit .234 to wrap up the win.
UTD returns to the floor Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Comets host Texas Lutheran.
