Stephen Melchor Nets OT Game-Winner for Comets Against UMHB

RICHARDSON, TX (09.24.16) - Senior defender Stephen Melchor put away the game-winning goal on a header in the seventh minute of the first overtime period as the UT Dallas men's soccer team picked up its third straight win, a 2-1 home decision over Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play Saturday night.

After a scoreless opening half, the two teams had to wait out a lightning delay of 1:38 before resuming play. In the 49th minute, Comet freshman Alfredo Kaegi opening the scoring with one-on-one ball past a diving UMHB keeper after an entry pass from teammate Connor Crabtree. The tally was Kaegi's team-leading sixth of the season.

Despite playing a man down late in the second half due to yellow cards, the Cru would score the equalizer in the 81st minute when Case Carnes blasted in a saved shot by teammate Daniel Santa, knotting the game, 1-1. Melchor's goal, his first of the season, would come in the 97th minute off a corner kick by Kevin Whatley.

The Comets and Cru both finished the night with 12 shots, with UMHB holding a slight advantage on shots on goal, 5-4. A total of 32 fouls was called in the contest and six yellow cards were issued.

UTD (now 5-3, 2-0 ASC) returns to action next weekend with a pair of road games in Abilene. UTD will play at Hardin-Simmons Friday and McMurry Saturday, both games at 4:30 p.m.
