RICHARDSON, TX (09.04.16) - Despite an overwhelming shot advantage, the UT Dallas women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to La Verne in the Comets' season opener Sunday afternoon.

The Comets (now 0-1) return to action Monday at 7 p.m. when they host St. Thomas (MN) to close out the opening weekend.

The visiting Leopards (now 1-1) got two early goals from Jessica Hernandez to grab a quick 2-0 lead by the 25th minute of the contest. UTD senior Megan Mugavero countered in the 42nd minute with a goal off a rebound of her own shot to cut the ULV lead in the half, however, the Comets could not find the equalizer.

UTD took nearly three times as many shots on the day, finishing with a 20-7 advantage over the Leopards. However, the Comets managed just five shots on goal, compared to six by ULV. UTD took seven corners, four of which came very early in the contest, but all failed to convert to a scoring tally.
