RICHARDSON, TX (10.12.17) - The UT Dallas women's soccer suffered its second straight loss Thursday night as the Comets dropped a 2-1 home decision to No. 6-ranked Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference play.
The visiting Cowgirls (12-0, 8-0 ASC) entered Thursday's contest giving up just three goals in the first 11 games of the season, two of which came in ASC blowouts. HSU used a pair of first-half scores to secure a 2-0 lead at the break before Comet freshman
Maya Fuller cut the lead in half in the 70th minute. The Comets pressured HSU throughout the second half, as the HSU defense faced the most shots it had seen all season, but could not find the equalizer.
HSU opened the scoring in the 11th minute with Kenne Kessler's NCAA Division III-leading 25th goal of the season and added an unassisted tally by Taylor Bernal in the 16th minute. Fuller's goal came after a misplay by HSU keeper Caitlin Christiansen on ball played back to her by a defender. After the misplay, Fuller raced Christiansen and the Cowgirl back line to the ball and poked in the goal, her fourth of the season.
