Comets Lock Down ASC Berth With 1-0 OT Win Over LETU

RICHARDSON, TX (10.26.17) - Senior Danny Meyer redirected a Jesse Ardila bending cross with 53 seconds left in the first overtime period as the UT Dallas men's soccer team battled for 1-0 home win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference play.

LETU keeper Miguel Cabrera rejected every Comet scoring opportunity for more than 99 minutes before Meyer was able to get a head on a cross from the right side of the pitch by Ardila. Meyer's redirected was just out of Cabrera's reach, invoking an eruption of celebration by UTD bench.

The Comets blasted 30 shots, one shy of their season high, while placing 13 on frame against the LETU defense. Cabrera finished the night with 12 saves, three of which came in overtime. The visiting YellowJackets took just 13 shots in the contest, four on goal.

With the win, the Comets secured a spot in the ASC Tournament for the eighth consecutive season and will enter next week's event as the tournament's No. 3 seed. UTD will open the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. in Belton, on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor, against an opponent yet to be determined.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Comets' 30 shots finished just shy of the season high of 31 taken in a 2-0 home win over Louisiana College on Sept. 23. In that game, UTD had 15 shots on goal, also a season best.

Meyer set a new season high for the Comets in shots (10) and shots on goal (7) in tonight's victory. No UTD player had taken more than seven shots in a single contest this season, prior to Thursday's game.

KEY PERFORMERS
Meyer took a team-high 10 shots, seven on frame, while Jackson Huckaby came off the bench for five shots, three on target. Mason Anderson and Alfredo Kaegi each took four shots. UTD keeper John Nicknish made four saves as he notched his fifth shutout of his freshman campaign.

NEXT UP
The Comets (9-5-2, 6-3-1 ASC) will close out the regular season Saturday as they celebrate "Senior Night" against East Texas Baptist. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
