RICHARDSON, TX (02.24.17) - The UT Dallas baseball team used 19 hits to extend its winning streak to five games with a 16-6 home victory over Hendrix Friday afternoon to open a three-game non-conference series.
The Comets (7-1) and Warriors return to the field Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at the UTD Baseball Field to close the weekend set.
UTD opened its half of the 1st inning with back-to-back home runs by
Josh Covey and
Ryan Burciaga and then plated 12 runs over the next three innings to jump out to a big early lead over the Warriors (1-5). Burciaga would end the game 3-for-5 from the plate with five RBI, collecting at least one RBI in each of the first four innings of the contest.
The Comets added three runs in the 2nd, five in the 3rd and four more in the 4th to take a 14-2 lead after four innings of play. UTD added two more runs in the 6th to complete their scoring.Â
In the 2nd, the Comets picked up a RBI single by Burciaga and a two-run double by
Connor Scruggs to extend their lead to 5-0. After giving up a run to the Warriors in the top of the 3rd, UTD plated five runs on four hits and a HC error to pull ahead 10-1. Four different Comets picked up an RBI in the 3rd and UTD got its final run on a Warrior passed ball.
The Comets gave up another single run in the 4th before scoring four more runs to put the game away. In the bottom of the frame, UTD got a lead-off homer from
Garrett Uhl, followed by a two-run single by Burciaga and a RBI single from Scruggs.
UTD finished its scoring in the 6th on a two-run single up the middle by
Isaiah Swann.
Jamie Andriot (2-0) finished his start with six strikeouts with just one walk in 7.0 innings of work, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits.
Zach Bomer and
Logan McPherson then tossed clean innings to wrap up the victory. Scruggs was 4-for-6 with three RBI while Swann was 3-for-4. Seven Comets had multi-hit games.
