RICHARDSON, TX (02.25.17) - Ruben Renteria teased a perfect game in the opener before the Comets pounded out 17 hits in the night cap as the UT Dallas baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Hendrix College Saturday afternoon. GAME 1 - UTD 10, HC 0
Renteria sat down the Warriors in order in the first six innings and faced a minimum 21 batters as he finished three outs shy of the first perfect game in program history as the Comets downed Hendrix, 10-0, to open Saturday's twin bill.

Renteria struck out eight while limiting the Warriors to just one hit as he improved to 2-0 on the young season. HC lead-off hitter Jorge Leon ended the perfection with an infield single up the middle and beat out a close throw from Comet shortstop Isaiah Swann. Leon was erased from the bases on a Drew Judson ground ball and Renteria then ended the game on a strike out, throw out double play.

Offensively, the Comets managed 10 hits off of three HC pitches with three UTD batters recorded two-hit contests. Barry Casey and Garrett Uhl were each 2-for-3 from the plate while Ryan Burciaga was 2-for-4.

The Comets took control of the game with a six-run 1st inning, scoring three runs before registering an out. After back-to-back singles by Josh Covey and Burciaga to open the bottom of the 1st, Casey belted his team-leading third home run of the season, lifting UTD to a very quick 3-0 lead. The Comets added an RBI single by Uhl and two runs on a pair of wild pitches to grab a 6-0 advantage.

UTD added four runs on two hits and two more Warrior wild pitches to extend its lead to 10-0 run after the second. Luke Richter picked up two RBI in the frame on a triple to right field.
