PINEVILLE, LA (02.09.17) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team will be heading to the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the 14th consecutive season later this month after the Comets secured a sixth straight victory, 70-56, at Louisiana College Thursday night.
The Comets (9-13, 6-7 ASC) continued their turn-around to the season as they completed their season sweep of LC and will try for a seventh straight win Saturday afternoon at East Texas Baptist. Game time is 3 p.m. in Marshall.
UTD started strong and then had to hold off a surging Wildcat squad in the second half before locking down the victory. The Comets shot 52 percent from the field in the opening half, hitting 6-of-12 three-pointers, to grab a 41-23 lead over LC at the break. The Wildcats, who entered Thursday's game on a season-high three-game winning streak, would cut the UTD lead down to seven points midway in the second half before the Comets pulled away.
Point guard
Caleb Banks scored 10 of his team-high 12 points in the opening half and finished the night as one of three Comets in double digits.

Kyle Coulter each finished with 11 points, both scoring nine points before the break.
Dimitrius Underwood ended the game with eight points along with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Comets finished the night shooting 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field, connecting on 7-of-15 three-pointers (46.7%), and were 13-of-20 (65%) from the free-throw line. UTD dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Wildcats, 44-28.
