Comets Complete Season Sweep of ETBU With 76-62 Road Win

MARSHALL,TX (02.11.17) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team can now finish now worse than third place in the American Southwest Conference East Division after a 76-62 road win over East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon.

The Comets (10-13) picked up their seventh straight win and evened their ASC record to 7-7 to guarantee at lead the No. 3 seed from East Division at the ASC Tournament, Feb. 23-25. UTD can climb up another spot with two wins next week as the Comets host division-leader LeTourneau (Thursday) and second place Texas-Tyler (Saturday).

Kyle Coulter scored a game-high 19 points and added eight rebounds as he was 7-for-9 from the field and hit both his three-point attempts. Dimitrius Underwood added 18 points and a game-best nine rebounds while Caleb Banks added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Comets had to overcome 23 turnovers, the second-most by the squad this season, and did so by shooting 51.9 percent (27-of-52) and hitting 6-of-14 three-pointers (42.9%).

UTD fell behind the host Tigers early as ETBU scored the first five points of the ball game, but bounced back with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes and never looked back. The Comets grabbed their first double-digit lead at 19-9 with 10:31 left in the opening half on a Jon Hatcher three-pointer and would take a 16-point lead, 35-19, into the locker room.

ETBU (14-10, 6-10 ASC) would cut the Comet lead back to 11 points, 58-47, after a  pair of free throws by Davis Robinson with 5:16 left to play, but that would be as close as the Tigers would get.
