AUSTIN, TX (03.14.17) - The No. 14-ranked UT Dallas baseball team was handed a 4-2 loss to Concordia Texas Tuesday on the road in a non-conference game with the Tornados.
The Comets (15-4) managed just six hits off of four CTX pitchers as they suffered their second straight loss after winning 13 of 14 contests. UTD returns to action this weekend with they host LeTourneau in a three-game American Southwest Conference series. The two teams will play a 2 p.m. single game Friday before closing the set with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the UTD Baseball Field.
UTD fell behind early after giving up a pair of runs to the Tornados in the 2nd inning. The Comets cut the lead in half in the 4th when
Connor Scruggs came home on a passed ball, but CTX got the run back in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead.
The Comets again drew within a run in the 7th,3-2, with a sacrifice fly
Ryan Burciaga, but again CTX countered with a single run in the bottom of the inning to secure the two-run victory.
Scruggs and
Zack Scataglia each finished 2-for-4 from the plate as the duo combined for four of the Comets' six hits on the afternoon.
Jonathan May (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in 3.0 innings of work. Three Comets combined to toss the final five innings, giving up one earned run on seven combined hits.
