RICHARDSON, TX (04.01.17) - The No. 21-ranked UT Dallas softball team completed a three-game weekend sweep of Howard Payne, 9-0, in five innings Saturday afternoon to wrap up an American Southwest Conference series with the Lady Jackets.
The Comets (23-8, 15-6 ASC) earned two home wins Friday night, 6-5 and 9-1, to open the three-game set. UTD returns to action next weekend with a three-game home series against Concordia Texas.
Sara Davison (3-3) limited the Lady Jackets to just one hit as she tossed the full five innings. Davison had one strike and gave up just one walk in the victory. The Comets racked up 10 hits off of two HPU pitchers, with
Samantha Halliburton the only UTD hitter with a multi-hit contest, going 2-for-3 from the plate.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 2nd with when
Jessica Vlasek came home on a bases-loaded wild pitch by HPU starter Tonya Thompson. UTD then added six runs in the 3rd and two final runs in the 4th to complete the run-rule victory.
In the 3rd, the Comets scored six runs on seven hits. UTD started the scoring with a two-run homer by
Brittany Perkins, her third of the season, and then added a two-run single by
Kendall Moore and a two-run triple by
Ravin Wilson. The Comets' final two runs came in the 4th on a single by
Stefanie Polderman followed by an HPU error on the play.
