No. 18 Comets Take Pair at Ozarks to Complete Series Sweep

CLARKSVILLE, AR (04.14.17) - Sophomore Allie Stephens picked up two victories as the No. 18-ranked UT Dallas softball team swept Ozarks Friday afternoon, 9-0 and 7-3, in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to complete a three-game series with the Eagles.

The Comets (29-8, 21-6 ASC) will wrap up ASC play next weekend with a three-game home series against Louisiana College. The two teams will play a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday before the Comets celebrate Senior Day Saturday with a 1 p.m. single game at the UTD Softball Field.

GAME 1 - UTD 9, Ozarks 0 (5 inn.)
The Comets got all the offense they needed with three in runs in the 1st inning as UTD rolled to a 9-0, five-inning victory over the Eagles to open Friday's doubleheader.

Stephens scattered three hits in 5.0 innings of work with one strikeout as she limited the Ozarks offense to just one base-runner past second base in the contest. Brittany Perkins continued her torrid hitting streak by going 3-for-4 with three RBI while Melissa Livermore and Jessica Vlasek were each 2-for-3.

Livermore led the game off with a walk and quickly stole second before coming home on an RBI single by Hope Griffith. The Comets added a second run on a Stefanie Polderman double and a final tally on a wild pitch to take an early 3-0 lead. UTD added another run in the 3rd on a Ravin Wilson bases-loaded walk and a fifth run in the 4th on a Perkins RBI single before erupting for four runs in the top of the 5th to seal the run-rule victory.

With one out and the bases loaded in the 5th, Perkins collected her second and third RBI of the contest with a double to left, scoring Heather Gilbert and Livermore. Two batters later, Jessica Vlasek completed the scoring with a two-run single down the right field line, scoring Griffith and Perkins.

Trailing 3-0 early, the Comets scored 10 unanswered runs, including six in the top of the 7th, to rally for a 10-3 win over the Eagles to wrap up the weekend series.
