No. 16 UT Dallas Extends Streak With Sweep of Wildcats

RICHARDSON, TX (04.21.17) - Senior Brittany Perkins homered twice as the No. 16 UT Dallas softball team swept Louisiana College, 6-4 and 2-0, Friday night to open a three-game American Southwest Conference series.

The Comets (31-8, 23-6 ASC) extended their school-record winning streak to 11 games with Friday's pair of victories and will close out the regular season Saturday with a 1 p.m. single game with the Wildcats for Senior Day.

GAME 1 - UTD 6, LC 4
Perkins and freshman Jessica Vlasek each belted two-run home runs as the Comets opened the series with LC with a 6-4 victory Friday afternoon.

Down 1 -0 in the 1st, Vlasek blasted her team-leading eighth long ball, scoring Perkins, to give UTD a 2-1 advantage. The Wildcats took back the lead in the top of teh 3rd with a two-run home run by Matt Stine, before Perkins hit her first home run of the twin bill with a two-run shot to left in the bottom of the frame, scoring Hope Griffith. The Comets added a third run in the 3rd thanks to a two-out LC throwing error, allowing Vlasek to score, to secure a 5-3 lead.

LC drew back within a run in the top of the 5th, but the Comets responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run on another Wildcat throwing error.

Lauren McLeod (16-1) picked up the victory despite giving up three earned runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings of work. McLeod struck out four Wildcats batters and walked one. Allie Stephens took over with the bases loaded an no outs in the top of the 7th and quickly finished the contest with a double play followed by a game-ending ground out with the tying run on second base.

Perkins was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI while Vlasek and Griffith were both 2-for-3 as the trio accounted for all six of the Comets' six hits.

GAME 2 - UTD 2, LC 0
Stephens tossed a gem in the second game of the night as she retired the first 14 batters she faced in a 2-0 complete-game victory.

Perkins gave Stephens all the offense she needed in the bottom of the 3rd with a two-run home run, scoring Melissa Livermore. Stephens would give up just two hits to the Wildcats in the shutout, striking out four with one walk.

The Wildcats broke Stephens' perfect game with a two-out infield single by Jordan Mason and added another base runner on a walk, but Stephens got out of the jam with a strikeout of Shea Smith. LC picked up a second hit with one out in the 7th, but would not move the runner past second base.

Stephens improved to 11-4 with the victory. The Comets managed just three hits of their own with Livermore and Vlasek each picking up a single.
