BELTON, TX (04.21.17) - Junior Jamie Andriot gave up just two hits in an eight-inning start Friday night, improving his record to 8-0 as the UTD baseball team took the opener of a three-game American Southwest Conference road series, 6-2.

Andriot (8-0) was staked to a 6-0 lead by a Comet offense that banged out 14 hits. Meanwhile, he was striking out 10 UMHB hitters and pitched four three-up, three-down innings, allowing just five baserunners.

Junior first baseman Barry Casey led the offensive attack with a 3-for-5 night at the plate, but was joined by Isaiah Swann, Mitch Barati, Luke Richter and Edmundo Ojeda with two hits each. Five different Comets delivered RBI hits.

The win was the seventh in the last eight games, and improved 14th-ranked UTD's overall record to 27-8 and 15-4 in ASC play, keeping pace with the UT-Tyler and East Texas Baptist, the top two teams in the conference standings. UTD and UMHB (18-15, 12-7 ASC) will meet in a 1 pm doubleheader Saturday afternoon to finish the series.

The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in just the 2nd inning. A Barati single and Richter double put a pair of runners on, then Barati scored the game's first run on a ground out before Ojeda drove in Richter with an RBI single to center field.

UTD made it 4-0 in the 5th when Swann and Casey led off the innings with singles and moved to second and third on a Connor Scruggs sacrifice bunt. A Barati single to left brought home Swann and Richter delivered a single to center to score Casey.

Josh Covey and Swann got one-out singles in the 9th before Scruggs delivered a two-out double to left center to bring home the final two runs.

UMHB pieced together a pair of hits, two walks and an error in the 9th to score its only runs against reliever Tristen DerMargosian.
