Men's Soccer Stumbles Against Austin College in Season Opener

RICHARDSON, TX (09.01.17) - Despite taking an early lead, the UT Dallas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 home loss to non-conference rival Austin College Friday in the season openers for both squads.

The Comets (0-1) struck first in the 20th minute on a tally by senior Daaron McFarling, but the visiting 'Roos answered with a pair of second-half goals to steal away the victory. UTD would finished the night out-shooting the 'Roos, 25-10, and finished with eight shots on goal. AC managed just two shots on goal in the contest, both finding the back of the net.

McFarling's goal came after a flurry of early Comet offense as he picked up the score on a put-back of a Danny Meyer shot that was blocked by AC keeper Joseph Khalaf. UTD had several chanced later in the half to extend the lead, finishing the first 45 minutes with 15 shots, but could not build a cushion.

The 'Roos (1-0) knotted the game in the 50th minute when Phillip Le took a short cross from the right from teammate Thomas Quick and beat UTD keeper Chase Therrien. AC took the lead in the 72nd minute on a tally by Adam Williams, who beat Therrien one-on-one, after an entry pass from Sebastian Bohlmann.

Alfredo Kaegi led the Comet offense with seven shots, two on frame, while Meyer had three shots. McFarling's goal was his seventh of his career.

The Comets return to the pitch Sunday at 2 p.m. when they face George Fox University at the UTD Soccer Field.
