RICHARDSON, TX (09.03.17) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team scored twice in the first six minutes, including a tally just 54 seconds into the contest, as the Comets earned their first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of George Fox University in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Comets (1-1) return to action next weekend with two games in Abilene against regional opponents. UTD will face Southwestern at 2 p.m. Friday and nationally ranked Trinity at 2 p.m. Saturday, both on the campus of Hardin-Simmons.
UTD needed less than a minute for the game-winning goal against the Bruins as
Jesse Ardila slipped a pass through the GFU defense to
Danny Meyer. Meyer then beat Bruin keeper Austin Burdick to his right side to give the Comets a quick 1-0 advantage.
Mason Anderson would double the Comet lead to 2-0 in the 6th minute as he tallied off a free kick taken by Aridila from the right corner. The Comets' final goal game in 40th minute as
Jude Anuwe took a short pass from
Isaac Urcuyo and beat Burdick one-on-one.
The Comets finished the game with 23 shots, compared to three by GFU, with nine on frame.
Alfredo Kaegi led UTD with five shots while
Jackson Huckaby took four shots. Keepers
Chase Therrien and
John Nicknish each played a scoreless half for the Comets, both logging one save.
