RICHARDSON, TX (09.21.17) - With his only shot of the night, junior
Hunter Williams scored on a header that barely cross the line midway though first overtime period, lifting the No. 25-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team to a 2-1 home win over Belhaven Thursday in American Southwest Conference play.
A free kick from
Isaac Urcuyo set up the game-winning goal when his entry went left of frame and after a few touches by both teams, Comet
Mason Anderson lifted a volley through the box, allowing Williams head the ball over the Belhaven keeper. A sliding Blazer defender attempted to clear the ball before it cross the line, but the linesman ruled it had crossed by nearly a foot before the clear.
Williams' first goal of the season officially came with 5:08 left on the clock in the first extra frame as the Comets played an overtime contest for the first time this season. The assist was Anderson's first of the season as well.
After a scoreless first period, the visiting Blazers (0-4-3, 0-2 ASC) opener the scoring in the 71st minute with a tally by Micah Taylor, assisted by Ian Requilman. The Comets answered in the 84th minute as UTD keeper
Chase Therrien launched a kick that would clear the BU defense and teammate
Daaron McFarling headed the ball over Blazer keeper Thomas Blake for the equalizer. The Blazers had a chance to end the game 17 seconds later, but Therrien saved the penalty kick by BU's Sam Joy.

Held without a shot in the first half, the Comets out-shot Belhaven, 11-10, in the second half and accounted for the only two overtime tries before the game was ended with Williams' header. The two goalkeepers combined for nine saves, all in the second half.
