ABILENE, TEXAS (09.08.17) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team broke loose after a scoreless first half Friday night to score three times and blank Southwestern University, 3-0, at the Hardin-Simmons Soccer Field.
UTD got on the board in the 51st minute with a diving header from
Isaac Urcuyo off the foot of
Gage Ott.
Daaron McFarling then added insurance just three minutes later, scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from
Alfredo Kaegi. Freshman midfielder
Cole Trevor-Wilson picked up his first collegiate goal with 2:04 remaining in regulation to cap the scoring.
The Comets (2-1) enjoyed a 13-2 first-half shot advantage, but were unable to score in the first 45 minutes. The loss was Southwestern's (2-1) first of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
UTD ended the game with a 22-7 shot advantage, putting 8 shots on goal. Pirates keeper Ryan Benner stopped four scoring chances in the first half. UTD keeper
Chase Therrien (2-1) made saves on Southwestern's only two shots on goal. The Pirates picked up four cards in the physical game.
KEY PERFORMERS:
Alfredo Kaegi led the Comets with four shots while
Jude Anuwe and Trevor-Wilson each had three. Urcuyo, who picked up his first goal of the season, put both his shots on net.Â
