RICHARDSON, TX (10.12.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball rallied in the opening set only to cruise to a 3-0 home win over Hardin-Simmons Friday morning to open the second of two American Southwest Conference crossover tournaments this season.
The Comets improved to 13-7 overall and 8-1 in ASC play after the 25-21, 25-12, 25-15, victory over HSU. UTD will return to the floor at 5 p.m. to face McMurry.
UTD hit .313 as a team for the match while senior
Sydney Riordan sparked the square with 10 kills and six digs.
Dylan Brinkman and
Alyssa Porter each added seven kills while
Jillian Via had six kills for the Comets. UTD finished with just four total blocks in the sweep of the Cowgirls, getting two each from Brinkman and Porter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets trailed most of the opening set before rallying for a 25-21 win over HSU. UTD hit .270 as a team and got four kills from Brinkman to take the 1-0 lead in the match. The Comets would not take their first lead in the set until 15-14.
- UTD used the momentum from late in the first set to roll to a 25-12 win over the Cowgirls in the second set. The Comets hit an impressive .371 as a team with Riordan leading the squad with five kills.
- The Comets hit .296 in the third set en route to a 25-15 win to complete the sweep of HSU. UTD used a balanced offensive attack in the set, getting two kills each from Riordan, Via and Porter, while collecting a single kill from four other players.
