Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UTD Still Leading ASC Chase Despite Yet Another Tie With HSU

ABILENE, TX (10.13.18) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team still sits atop the American Southwest Conference standings with just three conference games remaining after battling the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys to another tie Saturday night at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Just 1:40 after the Cowboys had taken a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, UTD junior Jordan Henderson answered with the Comets' only goal of the match, and the two longtime ASC rivals had to settle for a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of soccer. It was UTD's second double overtime tie with the Cowboys this season and sixth since 2013.

Despite the draw, UTD (9-1-2 overall) remained atop the ASC standings at 7-0-1 thanks to Concordia's 2-1 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday. The Comets have a 1-1/2 game lead over both those two squads - as well as a head-to-head tiebreaker - with three ASC games remaining on the schedule for all three teams. After a Tuesday night non-conference tilt at Austin College, UTD returns to conference action Thursday with a 7:30 pm home matchup with Sul Ross State. The Comets finish the ASC schedule on the road the following weekend against LeTourneau and East Texas Baptist.

HSU, which is battling for a post-season berth, improved to 3-8-2 overall with a 3-4-1 mark in conference play.

The two teams combined for 33 shots with UTD holding a 20-13 edge. Brad Rivenes, Jesse Ardila and Henderson all led the way with three shots while Donny Smith put both of his two shots on net. UTD goalkeeper Chase Therrien made five saves while HSU's Trent Ivy stopped four shots. Twenty-five combined fouls were called in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Hardin-Simmons broke a 0-0 tie at the 29:07 mark on a goal from Austin Wills off an assist from Abate Hennesy.

• Henderson then answered just over a minute later, knotting the score at the 30:47 mark.
