RICHARDSON, TX (10.18.18) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team remained unbeaten in American Southwest Conference play Thursday night as the Comets battled Sul Ross State to a 1-0 victory in their regular-season home finale.
With Thursday's win, the Comets improved to 10-1-2 overall and 8-0-1 league play, guaranteeing a quarterfinal home game in the ASC Tournament later this month. UTD will open the final week of the regular season next Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. road game at East Texas Baptist in Marshall.
The Comets snagged an early lead as junior defender
Brad Rivenes drilled a header into the back of the net off a
Jesse Ardila corner kick in the 15th minute of the contest. That would serve as all the offense the Comets would need as UTD limited the visiting Lobos to just four shots all night, only two of which were on frame.
UTD ended the shutout with 21 shots, nine on goal, with
Donny Smith leading the pack with five shots.
Jovi Munoz and
Oliver Hamby each added three shots while the trio of
Merek Byckovski,
Jordan Henderson and
Forrest Brooks each took two shots. Brooks led UTD with two shots on target.
Comet keeper
Chase Therrien needed to make just two saves in his third shutout of the season.
