RICHARDSON, TX (10.13.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team closed out the second American Southwest Conference crossover tournament of the fall Saturday afternoon with a quick 3-0 win over Sul Ross State as the Comets closed out the event with a perfect 3-0 mark.
The Comets improved to 15-7 overall and 10-1 in ASC play with the short 60-minute victory over Sul Ross State. UTD, which has officially clinched the divisional title outright, returns to action Tuesday night with an ASC East road match at LeTourneau in Longview.
Alyssa Porter led the Comets with 10 kills and added two blocks in the victory.
Sydney Riordan and
Jillian Via each contributed eight kills.
Caroline Shecterle dished out 22 assists in the UTD 6-2 offense.
UTD hit .287 as a team with 44 digs (14.7 per set) and four total blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets opened play quickly with a 25-14 win over SRSU in the opening set. Riordan sparked the Comets with five kills and four digs while Porter and Allison Owen each had three kills. UTD hit .393 in the set as a team.
- UTD upped its lead to 2-0 after a 25-16 win in the second set. Porter and Dylan Brinkman each finished with four kills in the set while Fayna Zeng had five digs. The Comets hit .243 as a team in the second.
- The Comets their third sweep of the weekend with a 25-15 win in the third set. Via led the Comets with four kills while Porter and Brynne Blackmar each had three kills. UTD finished the match with a .250 hitting percentage in the third set.
