Alyssa Porter recorded a career-best 23 kills as the UT Dallas volleyball team wrapped up the American Southwest Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 road win over Belhaven.
The Comets improved to 18-7 on the season after Saturday's win and closed out league play with a 13-1 mark, going a perfect 8-0 against teams from the ASC's East Division. UTD returns to action Tuesday night for its regular-season home finale when the Comets host Texas-Tyler at 7 p.m.
Porter, a junior from Austin, finished the match with 23 kills and a .553 hitting percentage, adding five blocks in the victory. Porter's 23 put-aways finished just three kills shy of UTD's four-set match record of 26, set by former Comet great Kyleigh Irish in 2008 and matched by
Holyn Handley in 2015.
UTD hit .260 for the match with
Lauren Schilling added 12 kills and
Sydney Riordan ended the contest with eight kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The host Blazers shocked the Comets with 25-23 win in the opening set as UTD hit just .062 as a team to fall behind 1-0.
- Porter sparked the Comet offense in the second set, a 25-10 win, with seven kills and a pair of blocks. UTD hit .367 in the set to turn the tables.
- Porter finished with six kills while Schilling added four kills in the third set as the Comets to a 2-1 lead after a 25-18 victory. UTD hit .375 as a team in the stanza.
- UTD closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set as Porter added her final six kills while her squad hit .325.
