RICHARDSON, TX (10.04.18) - Down 1-0 early in the second half, the UT Dallas men's soccer team scored three second-half goals to propel the Comets to an important 3-1 home win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play Thursday night.
With the pivotal victory, the Comets improved to 7-1-1 overall and remain one of two unbeaten teams in ASC play, now at 5-0 against league competition. UTD now face a Saturday showdown with ASC co-leader Concord Texas (7-2-1, 6-0 ASC) in a battle for the top spot in the ASC standings with just three weeks to play in the regular season. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the UTD Soccer Field.
After a scoreless opening half, the visiting Cru (8-3, 4-2 ASC) opened the scoring with a goal by Seth Neveloff in the 48th minute, receiving a pass from teammate Patrick Roach, spinning and drilling a shot into the back of the net. It took nearly 13 minutes for the Comets to counter, that goal coming in the 61st minute when
Donny Smith scored on a diving header on a entry pass from the left from
Mason Anderson, evening the contest, 1-1.
The Comets took the lead in the 67th minute on a free kick from
Jovi Munoz from just outside the box, his team-leading ninth goal of the season. UTD added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when
Oliver Hamby took advantage of a Cru defensive miscue in the box and beat UMHB keeper Travis Aday one-on-one.
Both teams finished the game with 12 shots with UMHB holding a slim advantage on shots on goal, 7-6. Smith led the Comets with three shots, two on frame, while Hamby and
Jesse Ardila each took two shots.
Chase Therrien, making his season debut with the squad, made six saves.
