RICHARDSON, TX (11.10.18) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 campaign with an exclamation point Saturday afternoon as the Comets trounced Hendrix College, 104-60, as part of Homecoming festivities on the UTD campus.
Junior guard
Dimitrius Underwood picked up right where he left off last season as he poured in 19 points while adding 14 rebounds, seven assists and four points in a solid-around performance. Underwood went 8-for-14 from the field and took a seat with just over 12 minutes left to play in the second half.
The Comets shot lights out as a team, hitting 41-of-75 shots from the field (54.7%) and draining 13-of-28 three-pointers (46.4%) on the afternoon. Underwood led five Comets in double-digit scoring in the rout as
Jalen Weber had 11 points and
Michael Forster,
Curtis Allen and
Matt Price each finished with 10 points.
UTD scored the opening 12 points of the contest and never looked back as the Comets rolled to a 46-32 halftime lead. The Comets would then add a 58-point second half, playing primarily reserve players, as they would top the century mark in their season debut.
The Comets (1-0) will return to action Monday night when they visit Southwestern in non-conference play. Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Georgetown.
