GEORGETOWN, TX (11.12.18) - Just two days after its 44-point home win to open the 2018-19 season, the UT Dallas men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the new season Monday night, falling at Southwestern, 76-61, in non-conference play.
The Comets (1-1) went 0-for-12 from three-point range as they trailed host Southwestern (1-0) most of the night despite taking an early lead on the Pirates. UTD rolled out to an 8-2 advantage over SU just three minutes into the contest, but would quickly give up the lead and would chase the Pirates the rest of the game.
UTD fell behind the Pirates, 42-31, at the break after shooting just 33.3 percent from the field (12-of-36) over the opening 20 minutes, going 0-for-5 from the long distance. The Comets' got colder as the night went on, hitting just 9-of-29 shots (31.0%) from the floor in the second half, missing all seven three-point attempts in the period. Southwestern, meanwhile, was on fire from beyond  the arc, hitting 14-of-30 three-pointers.

Hans Burwitz was a bright spot for the Comets in the loss, finishing the contest with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting with 13 rebounds. Fellow startersÂ

Michael Forster each added 11 points each as the trio accounted for 47 of the Comets' 61 points (77%).
The Comets cut the deficit back to six points, 47-41, just ahead of the 15-minute mark in the second half on an Underwood lay up, but Southwestern answered with a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes to pull away for the win.
UTD returns to action next Monday, Nov. 19, when the Comets host Schreiner in another non-conference game. Tip-off is 6 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
