RICHARDSON, TX (12.21.18) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team bounced back Friday afternoon with an 82-58 home win over Austin College in non-conference play.
With the win, the Comets improved to 8-3 overall and will take eight days off for the holidays before returning to action. UTD has another non-conference game on the slate when the Comets return to the floor when they visit Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday, Dec. 29. Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Waxahachie.
Dimitrius Underwood led the Comets in both scoring and rebounding in the lop-sided victory, finishing the afternoon with 22 points and eight rebounds, both game highs. Underwood was 8-for-15 from the field while adding two assists and two steals.
Hans Burwitz was second on the team with nine points while
Jalen Weber added eight points and a game-best three assists.
Michael Forster matched Underwood's high with eight boards of his own.
The Comets used a 15-0 run spanning halftime to take control of the contest after trading leads with Austin College eight times in the opening half. UTD scored the last six points of the first period to secure a 33-28 lead at the break and then opened the second half on a 9-0 run to pull away from the 'Roos. The Comets shot 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from the field over the final 20 minute, scoring 15 points on the fast break and outgunning AC, 24-10, in the paint in the half.
UTD ended the game shooting 47.7 percent (31-of-65), hitting 6-of-17 three-pointers (35.3%), and shot 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the foul line. The Comets out-rebounded AC, 46-32, while forcing 17 'Roo turnovers.
