Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comets Fall Short Against ASC East-Leading LeTourneau, 107-100, in OT

RICHARDSON, TX (02.15.18) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team had its season-high eight-game winning streak snapped Thursday night as the Comets dropped a 107-100 overtime decision to division-leading LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets opened the game hot from the start and would cruise into the break with a 14-point advantage, 48-34, after shooting 55.6 percent from the field as a team over the first 20 minutes of the contest. However, the visiting YellowJackets rallied in the second half as they slowly drew back into the game, eventually knotting the contest, 76-76, with 5:17 left to play.

LETU took its first lead of the second half on its very next possession, but the Comets would not go down without a fight, taking back a two-point lead, 82-80, on a Reagan Keogh lay up with 3:23 remaining. UTD held a slim lead for nearly the next two minutes before Jacket Nate West hit a pair of free throws to give LETU back a lead, 84-83, with 1:44 on the clock.

Hans Burwitz, who recorded his first career 'double-double', answered with an old-fashioned three-point play on the Comets' next trip down the floor and then hit 1-of-2 free shots one possession later to give the home team back a three-point cushion, 87-84, 1:17 remaining. The Comets then used two late Caleb Banks free throws to go up by four, 91-87, with just 16 ticks left, but LETU used late lay ups from West Christian Seidl to force overtime.

UTD's Dimitrius Underwood corralled the opening tip of the extra period and stormed down the floor to give the Comets a quick lead, but LETU answered with five straight points and would not trail again in overtime. The Jackets were 5-for-7 as a team and hit 6-of-7 free throws in the extra fives minutes to collect their 10th consecutive win and secure the ASC East title. UTD was 4-for-9 as a team in the extra frame, going 0-for-3 from three-point range.
