RICHARDSON, TX (02.03.18) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 home win over Concordia Texas Saturday afternoon in the Comet's spring opener.
The Comets (1-0) took little time to grab a 3-0 lead on CTX after sweeping doubles play and then picked up five singles victories to secure the lop-sided non-conference win.
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
Eric Chen partnered up at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-5 win over CTX's Hoanh Le/Micah Austin. Vaithianathan would handle Adam Comptom, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles and Chen blanked Isaac Glynn, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
Alberto Hernandez and
Zach Tavallaee downed Clayton Hernandez/Comptom, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles, and
Giovanni Zamboni and
Mario Jelev cruised to an 8-0 win over Glynn/Victor Escalon at No. 3.
Jelev picked up a 6-4, 6-1, win at No. 3 over Austin, Zambroni downed Herandez, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4, and Morton blanked Escalon, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Comets return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 18, when they host Whitworth at the UTD Tennis Courts at 12 p.m.
