AUSTIN, TX (04.15.18) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team rolled off its seventh consecutive victory Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 road win over Concordia Texas in American Southwest Conference West Division play.
After three hard-fought battles in doubles play, the Comets were able to collect four straight-set wins in singles action en route to their fourth shutout victory in five ASC West matches this season.
Top-flighted
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
Eric Chen had the shortest doubles match, earning an 8-3 win over CTX's Hoanh Le/Micah Austin.
Mario Jelev and
Giovanni Zamboni (No. 2) picked up an 8-6 win while Albert Hernandez and
Zach Tavallaee (No. 3) claimed an 8-5 victory.
Jelev held off Le at No. 1 singles, collecting a 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, win over the Tornados' top player. Hernandez also needed three sets for his win at No. 2 singles, downing Adam Comptom, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.
Zamboni (No. 3, 6-0, 6-2), Vaithianathan (No. 4, 6-1, 6-0), Chen (No. 4, 6-1, 6-0) and
Ryan Morton (No. 6, 7-5, 6-4) each collected straight-set wins.
NEXT MATCH
The Comets (8-1, 5-0 ASC West) will close out the regular season next Sunday, April 22, when they host Hardin-Simmons at 1 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts.
