COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (08.31.18) - Freshman
Jovi Munoz made his collegiate debut a special night as the forward scored three times Friday in the Comets' 3-2, double-overtime victory at perennial regional power Colorado College.
The Comets (1-0) return to action at 12 p.m. Sunday when they face Whitman College before returning home.
Munoz, a native of Arlington, scored the opening goal of the game for the Comets and then gave UTD back the lead early in the second half. His game-winner would not come until the 109th minute as he drilled his second penalty kick of the night. Munoz' three-goal performance is the 21st hat trick in program history and first since
Danny Meyer accomplish the feat on Oct. 22, 2016, against Ozarks.
The Comets finished with an impressive 22 shots, 11 on frame on the night. UTD keeper
John Nicknish made just two saves as the Comet back line held the host Tigers to just 12 shots, four on goal.
