COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (09.02.18) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season Sunday afternoon as freshman
Jovi Munoz tallied the game's only goal in the 74th minute to lift the Comets to a 1-0 win over Whitman College on the campus of Colorado College.
Coming off a three-goal performance in his collegiate debut Friday night, Munoz broke open the scoreless contest with just over 16 minutes left to play in regulation as he found the back of the net after a rebounded shot by teammate
Jackson Huckaby. That would be all the offense the Comets would need as sophomore keeper
John Nicknish kept Whitman at bay, collecting five saves in the shutout performance.
Jesse Ardila led the Comets with three shots, two on goal, while Munoz took two shots.
The Comets (2-0) return to action next weekend with a pair of games in San Antonio. UTD's next contest is at 6 p.m. Saturday against Hardin-Simmons. The Comets will then square off with No. 17-ranked Trinity at 6 p.m. Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Whitman outshot the Comets, 8-4, in the opening half, but could only place on of those shots on frame before the intermission. The two teams both gathered five shots in the second 45 minutes with Nicknish making four of his five saves in the second half.
- Munoz's goal came at the 73:29 mark on Huckaby's shot which was saved by Whitman keeper Owen Davis-Bower. Munoz' tally was his fourth in two games for the Comets.
