RICHARDSON, TX (09.11.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team began its run for a fourth straight conference crown Tuesday night with a 3-0 home win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference East Division play at the UTD Activity Center.
The Comets improved to 5-2 with the quick win over ETBU as they hit .230 as a team, compared to just .130 by the visiting Tigers. UTD easily held off the Tigers, 25-21, in the opening set and then rolled to a 25-17 win in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. Down 20-17 in the third set, however, the Comets had to use a 7-0 run to force match point. ETBUÂ snagged three straight points to claw back, but UTD ended the victory on a kill by
Dylan Brinkman.
Lauren Schilling, named ASC East Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, led the Comets with 10 kills while
Sydney Riordan,
Jillian Via and
Alex Nolan each added eight kills. Brinkman had six kills along with a match-high 21 digs.
The Comets return to action this weekend with three matches at the East-West D-III Challenge in Claremont, Calif. UTD will face No. 15 California Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. Friday to open event on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets hit .250 as a squad in the opening set en route to a 25-21 win to start the night. Via and Schilling each had five kills as UTD jumped out to a 10-3 cushion and never looked back.
- UTD hit .241 as a team in the second set as they never trailed in a 25-17 win over the Tigers. Brinkman led the Comets with four kills and added nine digs.
- The Comets trailed most of the third set, hitting just .190 as a team. ETBU led by as many as four points midway through the set before taking a 20-17 lead late. After a Tiger error, UTD added six points on Brinkman's service to set up three match points.
