Comet Men Rally Past Ozarks, 2-1, in Home Opener

RICHARDSON, TX (09.13.18) - Trailing 1-0 at the break, the UT Dallas men's soccer team used two second half goals in a six-minute span to come from behind for a 2-1 home win over Ozarks Thursday night in the American Southwest Conference opener for both programs.

The Comets (3-0-1, 1-0 ASC) finished the night with 21 shots, compared to just eight by visiting Ozarks, but had just five shots on frame in the contest. The Eagles finished with just two shots on goal in the game, one of which came off the head of Richard Souffrant that found the back of the net on a corner kick in the 13th minute.

Stilling down a goal in the 59th minute, freshman Oliver Hamby drew a foul in the box to set up a game-tying penalty kick. Fellow freshman Jovi Munoz stepped up and drilled a shot past the diving Eagles keeper from the spot. Hamby then raced around the left side of the Ozarks defense in the 65th minute and blasted a shot off an Eagle defender for the game-winner.

Monuz, Alfredo Kaegi and Jesse Ardila each finished with a game-best three shots. Freshman keeper Stephen Pham made his first collegiate start and had one save in a full 90-minute performance. The UTD back line did not allow a shot on goal in the second half.

The Comets will look to remain unbeaten Saturday night when they host Texas-Tyler at 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field. Prior to the contest, the senior class will be recognized as part of Senior Day.
