SAN ANTONIO, TX (09.08.18) - In a defensive battle, the UT Dallas men's soccer team opened its weekend trip at Trinity University with a 1-1 draw against league-foe Hardin-Simmons.
After more than 70 scoreless minutes, the Comets (2-0-1) finally got on the board on a goal by
Donny Smith, assisted by
Jesse Ardila. However, the Cowboys answered six minutes later when Kiko Redondon found the back of the net off a HSU set piece.
The Comets finished with just 10 shots, five on frame, with
Oliver Hamby leading the way with three shots. UTD held the Cowboys to just nine shots, six on goal. Comet keeper
John Nicknish made three saves.
UTD will wrap up their trip in San Antonio Sunday with a 5 p.m. game against No. 17-ranked Trinity.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets broke open a scoreless game in the 74th minute when Smith scored thanks to an entry pass from Ardila.
- HSU responded in the 80th minute to force overtime.
- The Cowboys out-shot UTD, 3-0, in overtime, with Comet keeper Nicknish making a save in each extra frame.
