BELTON, TX (09.22.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team wrapped up its first American Southwest Conference crossover tournament of the season Saturday morning with a quick 3-0 win over Howard Payne at the Mayborn Campus Center at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Comets improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in ASC play after the 25-17, 25-17, 25-17, win over the Yellow Jackets. UTD will return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. road match at Texas-Tyler.
Sydney Riordan led the Comets with 11 kills while
Jillian Via added 10 kills, seven of which came in the opening set. UTD finished with five blocks and averaged better than 18 digs per set. The Comets hit .269 as a team, compared to .117 by HPU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets hit .294 in the opening set en route to a 25-17 win over HPU. Via had seven kills while Lauren Schilling added five put-aways.
- UTD hit .267 in the second set in another 25-17 victory. Via and Madeleine McCall each had three kills as the Comets needed just 12 kills to win the stanza.
- The Comets' final 25-17 win came after UT hit .237 as a squad with just 15 kills. Riordan had five kills in the set.
