TYLER, TX (09.25.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team returned to action Tuesday night with a 3-1 road loss at No. 20-ranked UT Tyler, 21-25, 17-25, 25-20, 18-25.
The Comets fell to 9-6 overall after Tuesday's loss and will return to American Southwest Conference play Friday night when they host Louisiana College. Match time is 7 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
Jillian Via and
Lauren Schilling each finished with 10 kills while
Allison Owen added eight kills in the four-set loss.
Fayna Zeng led the Comets with 19 digs and Schilling paced UTD with six blocks.
The Comets ended the contest hitting just .140 as a team, the squad's second-lowest hitting percentage of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets started strong offensively, hitting .216 in the opening set, but could not pull off the win as they fell to the host Patriots, 25-21. Schilling led the squad with three kills and had a pair of blocks.
- UTD hit -.080 as a team in the second set en route to a 25-17 loss. The Comets managed just five kills, compared to nine errors, as no player had more than a single kill in the set.
- The Comets avoided their first three-set loss of the season with a 25-20 win in the third stanza. UTD rebounded to hit .250 as a team with Via and Schilling each contributing three kills.
- The match ended with a 25-18 win by UTT as the Comets hit .204 in the final set. Via had her four final kills in the set.
