ABILENE, TX (10.12.19) - Less than four minutes away from a scoreless draw, the UT Dallas women's soccer team suffered its first loss of season Saturday night as the Comets dropped a 1-0 double-overtime decision to league leader Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference play.
HSU's Kendell Groom cleaned up a loose ball in the box in the 107th minute after a pass from the left by teammate Taylor Bernal to end the battle of the ASC's top two teams. The Comets fell to 11-1-1 with Saturday's loss and slipped to 4-1-1 in ASC play. The host Cowgirls improved to 9-2-1 overall with the win and remain atop the ASC standings with a 6-0 league mark.
The Comets closed the defensive battle with 10 shots, but failed to record a shot on goal throughout the contest.
Rana Hussein and
Sofia Munoz each finished with three shots while
Stephanie Ward took two shots. In comparison, HSU took 19 shots, six on frame, with Comet keeper
Morgan Sherman collecting five saves.
The Comets will return home Tuesday night to host Austin College in a non-conference matchup, kicking off a five-game home stand. Match time is 6 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field. East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau visit the UTD campus next weekend in a return to ASC play.
