RICHARDSON, TX (10.15.19) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday night with a 2-1 home win over Austin College.
Sophomore
Stephanie Ward netted the game-winner in the 88th minute to help the Comets complete their perfect run through non-conference play. Now 12-1-1 overall after Tuesday's win, UTD posted an 8-0 mark this fall again out-of-conference competition.
With the squad's second line starting the contest, freshman
Hanna Sexton opened the scoring with a tally in the fifth minute, her first of her career, thanks to an assist by
Rain Lybbert. UTD held its 1-0 advantage through the break before the 'Roos (2-10-1) found the the equalizer off the boot of Karolina Cruz in the 49th minute.
After the Comets' starters took over the field with just over 30 minutes left in regulation, UTD controlled possession of the ball down the stretch but struggled finding frame until Ward's game-winner. Ward's first goal of the season came with 2:39 left on the clock in the second half as she looped a shot over AC backup keeper Meredith Harris for an unassisted goal.
The Comets took 24 shots on the night, 13 on target, with four different players taking three shots each. UTD keeper
Erin Clawson made two saves in a full 90-minute performance.
UTD will return to American Southwest Conference play and continue its five-game home stand Thursday night when the Comets host East Texas Baptist. Game time is 5 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
