RICHARDSON, TX (10.17.19) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to secure a 3-0 home win over East Texas Baptist Thursday in American Southwest Conference play.
After a scoreless opening half, the Comets finally dented the scoreboard thanks to a penalty kick by
Sofia Munoz in the 51st minute. The first tally of the contest was made possible by a hand ball just inside the box by a Tiger player.
The 1-0 lead held for most of the second before Ranna Hussein and
Ashlyn Sims each added late goals to secure the home win. Hussein's team-leading eight goal of the season of the season came in the 84th minute after a pass from the right by Sims. Sims added the final goal in the 88th minute on a rebound of a Kaitlyn Manning shot.
The Comets finished the game with 10 shots, seven of which were on frame, with Munoz and Hussein each taking three shots. ETBU took eight shots, four on goal, with Comet keeper
Morgan Sherman making four saves in the shutout.
With the win, the Comets improved to 13-1-1 overall and are now 5-1-1 in ASC play. UTD will next host LeTourneau at 5 p.m. Saturday in the third of five straight home games.
