Fillman's Late One-Timer Pushes Comets Past UMHB, 2-1

RICHARDSON, TX (10.03.19) - Junior Keely Fillman scored the game-winner in the 88th minute as the UT Dallas women's soccer team downed Mary Hardin-Baylor, 2-1, Thursday night in the Comets' American Southwest Conference home opener.

Fillman's late goal pushed the Comets record to 9-0-1 overall as the squad improved to 2-0-1 early in the ASC schedule. The Comets will look to remain unbeaten Saturday night when they host Concordia Texas in another ASC home contest.

The visiting Cru (4-5-1, 2-1 ASC) opened the scoring late in the opening half when Rachel Bloom tallied on a slow roller in the 41st minute, assisted by Taylor Marques. Trailing 1-0 at the break, Comet Rana Hussein slip a shot inside the left post in the 50th minute, thanks to a crossing pass from the left by Fillman. The goal was Hussein's fifth of the season.

After nearly 40 scoreless minutes, Fillman gave UTD its only lead of the night and entry pass from the left by teammate Morgan Stromberg. Stromberg's pass led Fillman into the box where Fillan turned and struck the ball mid-air hard enough to sail past Cru keeper Emmalee McMaude. Fillman's tally was also her fifth of the season.

The Comets closed the victory with just 10 points, finishing with five shots on target. Hussein and Fillman each took three shots. UMHB took 12 shots, also with five shots on goal. UTD keeper Morgan Sherman made four saves.

UTD maintained possession for 70 percent of the contest, advancing the ball into the Cru defensive more than 30 percent of that time.
